There are books we read simply because we enjoy a good story, and then there are books we pick up because we want to learn something new, expand our thinking, or gain a different perspective.
As I look ahead to my upcoming reading list, I have another collection of books that I'm particularly excited about. These aren't necessarily books I'm reading just for leisure. They're books I've selected with intention, with a focus on personal development, leadership, communication, and entrepreneurship.
As Life Skills with Love (LSWL) continues to provide practical, relatable lessons and resources for young people, I recognize that building something meaningful also means continuing to learn and grow along the way.
My background in Organizational Leadership gave me a foundation in leadership, people development, and organizational effectiveness. But there's always something new to explore, a different perspective to consider, or another way to approach an idea.
I want to continue bringing that mindset into the work I'm doing with LSWL.
Reading with a Purpose
This collection covers several areas that connect directly to the work of building and developing Life Skills with Love.
Leadership, Coaching & Communication
-
The Coaching Habit by Michael Bungay Stanier
-
Land Your Message: How to Turn What You Know Into a Message People Understand and Act On by Diane Windingland
-
Talk Like TED by Carmine Gallo
I'm particularly interested in exploring how we communicate ideas, engage different audiences, and make information meaningful and memorable. Whether I'm developing a lesson, presenting an idea, or creating content, how we deliver a message can be just as important as the message itself.
Entrepreneurship, Influence & Strategy
-
To Sell Is Human by Daniel Pink
-
Start with Why by Simon Sinek
-
Building a StoryBrand by Donald Miller
These books offer different perspectives on communicating value, understanding purpose, building a recognizable brand, and connecting with an audience.
For LSWL, that means continuing to be intentional about our mission, how we present our resources, and how we make sure the value of what we're sharing is clear.
More Than Just Reading
One thing I want to be intentional about with this reading list is putting what I learn into practice.
It's easy to finish a book, highlight a few passages, and move on to the next one. But the real value comes from taking an idea and finding a way to apply it.
That might mean approaching a lesson differently, strengthening how I communicate an important life skill, developing a new resource, or looking at an aspect of LSWL from a different perspective.
I also want to remain open to ideas that challenge the way I currently think. Growth isn't always about making major changes. Sometimes it's about making small adjustments that lead to better results over time.
And while these books are connected to my work with LSWL, the lessons I take away will undoubtedly extend beyond it.
Learning Is Part of the Journey
One thing I believe is that we should never become so comfortable with what we already know that we stop being curious about what else we can learn.
That applies to young people preparing for adulthood, professionals developing their careers, entrepreneurs building something of their own, and anyone navigating a new chapter in life.
It's also something I want to model through Life Skills with Love. Learning, growing, and developing aren't things we outgrow. They're ongoing parts of life.
So, this reading list is about more than checking books off a list. It's about investing in my own continued development while building something I genuinely believe in.
I'm looking forward to seeing which ideas stand out, which lessons I put into practice, and how they influence the next chapter of Life Skills with Love.
Because the goal isn't simply to read more books. It's to keep learning, keep growing, and put that knowledge to good use.
A little wisdom to carry along the way:
Never stop being a student of the things you're passionate about. The more you learn, the more you have to share.
Happy reading!
