As an avid reader, I often find myself lost in the pages of books that span a multitude of genres, each offering a unique perspective and a different world to explore. Reading, for me, is not just a pastime; it’s a journey of learning, a source of pleasure, and a way to connect with ideas that shape our understanding of the world.
I haven’t really cultivated a consistent reading habit yet, but I’m open to trying a book club. I’m a bit old school—I love the tactile experience of flipping through pages. However, I’ve recently embraced audiobooks, which have added a new dimension to my reading life. Yes, I still proudly use my library card!
Don’t hesitate to step out of your comfort zone; you might discover a new favorite genre or author in unexpected places. Reading offers the chance to learn something new or to get updated on topics you already know about as they evolve. It’s a wonderful escape into the pages (or screen), allowing you to step into another life or travel across the world. Each book is an opportunity to enter the mind of another, gaining insights and perspectives that enrich our own experiences.
I often find myself exploring genres I wouldn’t typically pick up, ranging from self-help and autobiographies to horror and psychological thrillers. Each genre has its own unique flavor and rhythm, and discovering new styles keeps my reading experience fresh and exciting. A fantasy novel can transport me to realms of magic and mythical creatures, while gripping historical fiction immerses me in the trials and triumphs of different times and places.
In 2023, I read forty-six books and plan to start a blog recommending a few and sharing why I enjoyed them. This year, I was enrolled in a Human Resources certification program, which limited my pleasure reading to just fifteen books. Lately, I've developed a strong appreciation for thrillers and psychological thrillers, particularly the works of Freida McFadden, Jeremy Bates, and Jackie Kabler, among others.
I’m currently halfway through a book by T.J. Brearton. Now that the major part of my coursework is behind me, I’ve dusted off my bookshelves and dove right back in.
As I wrap up this reflection on my reading journey, I’m deeply aware of the profound impact books can have on our lives. Whether fiction or non-fiction, self-help or educational, each book has the potential to teach us something valuable. Whether you cherish the tactile experience of a physical book or the convenience of audiobooks, the joy of reading is always within reach.
