Every June 19th, we pause to recognize Juneteenth — the day in 1865 when the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas finally learned of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It’s a powerful reminder that freedom didn’t come all at once, and justice often takes the scenic route.
But Juneteenth isn’t just a history lesson. It’s a time to honor the struggle, while celebrating with pride, purpose, and soul.
This Juneteenth, let’s reflect on the past, acknowledge the progress we’ve made, and recommit to the work still ahead — all while enjoying the sizzle of the grill, the rhythm of music, and the joy of good company under the sun.
It’s about shared meals, bright decorations, and the spirit of celebration that brings us together. Freedom is always sweeter when it’s shared.
Today, we celebrate not only freedom, but also the ongoing journey toward justice, peace, and opportunity. We honor the trailblazers who fought and continue to fight for equality.
Let’s take a moment to reflect, laugh, and look forward to a brighter, more inclusive future.
